English Dub Review: Attack on Titan “Retrospective”

Overview:

For the flying boat to take off, the mechanics need half a day to service it. Knowing they’ll never last that long with Jaegerist reinforcements on the way, the crew is forced to change their plans.

Our Take:

This episode was nothing but Mappa showing off and they know it. The animation was so amazing and smooth. Seeing Mikasa tear through scouts was something to behold, and even Floch had a few good moves himself. I wonder if Floch is done for or if he will make a reappearance later. My bet would be on the latter.

Most of this episode was just straight action as if making up for the last few dialogue-heavy episodes. There was some great dialogue near the end though. I was kind of hoping that Magath and everyone’s former drill instructor Keith Shadis would get to meet up. I haven’t decided yet if Magath’s turnaround on the Eldians is earned or not. It’s one of the few issues I have with the characterization in this. There is only one episode left in this second part of the final season. I am going to be sad to see this one go. It’s a good thing it’s coming back in 2023 then I guess. But I still wish it would just keep going.
