English Dub Review: Sabikui Bisco “The Stolen Rust Eater”

Overview

Bisco and Milo finally reach Konakidani when the Pipe Snake, a Giant flying Snake monster with two heads that’s the size of a dragon, appears before them. That’s also when Pawoo catches up to them with the worst possible timing. Soon enough, even Pawoo is dragged into the intense battle against the Pipe Snake. Meanwhile, Governor Kurokawa also closes in around them…

Our Take

So far, I’m really liking the duo of Bisco and Milo with each passing episode. Pawoo made an appearance, but after a near-death experience with that large-ass Pipe Snake, it seems like she’s willing to put her trust on Bisco, at least for now. Don’t know what really went on her side later on but I guess it isn’t anything pleasant.

However ,with every crazy near-death moment, there were moments of levity and out of place character moments such as Pawoo suddenly having the hots for Bisco, despite wanting to kill his ass 2 minutes ago, and their conversation before they split up didn’t seem to match what we’ve seen of their interactions so far. Or the fact that later after Bisco is Injured, Milo acts like a housewife that tries to drug his food, for “safety.” I get the reason why, but came across as unsettling. And then long after the reveal of Kurokawa’s true intentions, It also felt like whole episode was making a big deal out of Bisco being injured and not being able to fight, but the show did nothing to actually convey that properly outside of a minor info-dump on Milo’s end…

Overall, it feels like each episode is a mixed bag when it puts the characters in more dangerous situations. At least Bisco and Pawoo are on better terms now. However, as the title has kinda spoiled, the Governor has swooped in and later took Pawoo hostage and due to some unforeseen circumstances to their journey, Milo has knocked out Bisco so that he can heal. But I remain curious to see if Milo would be able to succeed on his own since Milo’s whole conflict with Bisco felt like a painfully contrived excuse to take Bisco out of the picture for a bit so Milo can have his moment to shine in combat. And if that’s the case, I’d like to see how far Milo has progressed.
