English Dub Review: Rumble Garanndoll “I Want to Turn the Tide With You (And Everyone Else)!”

Overview

Kudo Hosomichi and his battery girls continue to fight desperately as the Exhibition Center approaches the final defense line. Commander Balzac tries to stop them, fearing that Hosomichi will make the same mistake as he did ten years ago…


Our Take

While the stakes and urgency were properly raised during the proceedings of this Season Finale, it feels like there’s too much going on and that it needed one more episode for Rin vs Hayate or at least one devoted to Balzac’s flashback so that the finale can focus on the battle against Akatsuki and stopping the Colony Drop. But at the very least, the Balzac flashback reveal was kinda funny despite previous episodes having built it up as this serious and tragic event…

The final battle with the Garanndoll switching forms mid-battle was great then the big finale of everyone’s will and passion coming together. It was even more clever with the way it integrated with Kudo’s “empty shell” & playboy” personality traits into the group & the fights Though the ending leaves more to be desired in places. Of course, they even went as far as to insert that one classic meme line! ‘how many true forms does it actually have”?

Overall, this was a decent show, but not perfect. While I could feel the producer’s love and energy in the plot and characters, it could’ve used a few more episodes to really flesh out the story/characters/themes. Villains like Akatsuki & Hayate could’ve had more characterization as their motives behind antagonizing otaku culture out of all things for the sake of patriotism is a bit too silly for me, even if the show’s supposed to be slightly ridiculous. But I guess if season 2 becomes a thing, it opens potential to further delve into it, assuming the animators wish to go back.
