English Dub Review: Platinum End: “Diffused Power”
Overview: Mirai (Alejandro Saab) and Saki (Laura Post) reflect on Nanato’s (Andrew Kishino) lasting action, while a new threat rears its ugly head in that of Yuito (Zeno Robinson) who has been controlling Kanade (Griffin Burns) behind the scenes.
Our Take: Nanato’s recent demise continues to weigh heavily on Mirai and Saki but the former most of all. Every hero goes through a phase of needlessly blaming themselves for a decision that was not of their making that led to some terrible consequence. Sometimes it is a necessary plot point, but can be frustrating to watch when it really has nothing to do with the main protagonist despite how they feel. Thankfully, the show does not linger here too long, with Saki as the honest voice of reason for aspects he knows deep down about Nanato but just couldn’t admit. Nasse and Saki showcase how Mirai is evolving throughout with his sanction of Nanato’s last act despite him killing Metropoliman.
Both Mirai and Saki earn themselves a brief reprieve in each other’s company. However, it fails to impress upon any semblance of lighthearted or warm chemistry with each other, as opposed to Saki’s confession of her feelings to Mirai, with it referencing their cheesy childhood scenes.
Just when the threat of Metropoliman was behind them, a surprising new one is on the horizon in that of the small unassuming child, Yuito, who was with Metropoliman before his death. He was a looming mystery due to his withdrawal from the battle and his initial concealed identity and he is already looking to be a more imposing adversary for Mirai and Saki than Kanade ever was. Yuito’s backstory of how he became unhinged and how frivolous he considers the natural world and its earthly desires, as a result of his loneliness, grounds him in a way Kanade was not. The fact that he was able to track down and put together that Kanade was Metropoliman, which allowed him to shoot him with a red arrow, is still a question that picks at me, but hopefully that can be explained in a sensical manner later on. His reveal of the angels, god candidates, etc. to the entire world and for people to “choose” their favorite makes for an exciting development in how it will affect humanity on a global scale, or at the very least, Tokyo, Japan. Yuito’s thriving pleasure of real life and death stakes gives hope that he can be a more enjoyable antagonist, villain or even character than Kanade was, especially if his admiration of Mirai is any indication.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
