English Dub Review: Miss Kuroitsu from the Monster Development Department “The Soul of a Demon Drinking into a Stupor at a Banquet of Illusions While Burdened by Sins that Lead All Men Astray Shatters with Anger When the Young Maiden Cries”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kuroitsu hopes to acquire pluripotent cells from Camula, Agastia’s strictest executive. But it isn’t until she attends an idol concert on a related matter that she finds her chance!
Our Take:
We are once again at a point where after Blader defeats a monster, the monster-making team faces numerous situations in their workplace. This episode features another executive in the department and another short trip to the Agastia-owned amusement park. Hopefully, it’ll be just as fun as our last visit.
The first half of the episode introduces us to one of the executives of Agastia: Immortal Camula. Camula is an immortal vampire lady who takes pride in auditing her departments, especially the monster development department. However, she also holds a huge secret: she is covertly a massive fan of a specific idol group. This allowed Kuroitsu to steal Camula’s pluripotent cells for her research. Like its previous introductions to particular characters, the show offers a solid first impression for Camula regarding her personality and abilities, mainly the latter during her brief battle with the department. It’s hard for me to judge her based on her first appearance, but I will admit that she’s someone that no one wants to mess with unless they like getting tangled up by her centipedes.
The second half sees Kuroitsu, Bete, and Akashic on an inspection trip to Leafland. While Bete and Akashic play around in the park, Kuroitsu checks on the monster workers, including Sahuagin, who can’t help but make children cry just by looking at them. The episode’s mini-adventure managed to be a minor improvement over the previous one for one reason: Bete and Akashic. It further explores Akashic as a leader with the mind of a flighty young girl and the strength of King Kong. Seriously, she can deal a ton of damage with just one punch.
More importantly, it showcases that Bete has a soft spot underneath her tough shell. Not only did she give the last balloon to a small child instead of Akashic, but she also saved that child’s life from a creature from a rival organization, White Alligator. After seeing Bete being a rabid dog in a woman’s body in the last couple of episodes, it was nice to see the writers put some effort into developing this character a bit more.
Overall, the fourth episode of Miss Kuroitsu is another tolerable set of misadventures in the supervillain organization. The first half delivers another decent introduction in the form of a vampire lady, while the second half offers another fun trip to the wonderful world of Leafland. As usual, it has its moments, but its arc still struggled to inject more interest in the show itself regarding its episodic structure and concept. However, since Akashic destroyed the hell out of White Alligator and put Agastia at risk, this could be its chance to get itself back on track.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
