Review: Fairview “Fulfillment”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Omni, Fairview’s take on Amazon, features a bot-filled warehouse that doesn’t treat their employees all that well. Because of this, the town of Fairview opts to be more self-sufficient and join OnlyFans as a means to make a living. From OnlyFans, Todd becomes a star with a steady supply of subscribers that want to watch him masturbate. Unfortunately, Todd’s nightly engagement takes a toll on his family and he soon opts for retirement so as to spend more time with them instead.

Our Take

The irony about the internet is this. Multitudes of Twitter users complaining about their job, but begs you for quarters via their Patreons. In order to get money from me, you have to provide me with SOME sort of value. Say what you want about OnlyFans, and no I don’t subscribe, but at the very least, people on that website earn in exchange for SOMETHING. Patreon users, most of the “rewards” are ridiculous.

Why do I bring this up? Clearly satirical points about Jeff Bezos, Amazon, etc are rife throughout this week’s episode, however the writers forget how Jeff got there. He provided a service (which started as an online book store only to grow into the biggest supplier of cloud DB’s for websites in the world) and everybody bought in. Likewise, what’s to say OnlyFans and it’s CEO, Tim Stokely, will not be seen in the same light?

The problem with the Twitter-infused viewpoints on Fairview is, is like the Twitter, those viewpoints are often short-sighted and not educated. Because of this, the comedy is unable to shine through. And in a series where most of the the voice actors sound like they are spit-balling a dozen or so jokes at any given clip, the underlying premise has to be a bit more important in order for this series to have any sort of foundation in which to build it’s political rock.

There are a couple of funny ideas here, Todd literally being caught with his zipper down was pretty good, and his cliched millennial white gamer motif of a child, AKA Beef, provides a chuckle here and there, but overall, everything just tastes bland. The majority of the jokes that are attempting to be pushed through here are anything but the “hypertopical” spin we were promised when the series was initially announced late last year.
