English Dub Review: Sasaki and Miyano “Someone I Like”

Overview:

The school year slowly marches forward. As Sasaki and Miyano’s relationship deepens, the other guys at school take notice. Sasaki struggles with the intensity of his feelings.

Our Take:

What I really liked about this episode was that it really nailed what it’s like to start liking someone. You want to be around them all the time and even try out things they like to get to know them better. It hasn’t been as subtle with Saski getting into BL manga to get closer to Miyano. But when you start even trying things you don’t like that speaks volumes. Like when Miyano, who doesn’t like sweets, eats the ones that Sasaki gave him.

What makes it trickier is coming at it from the angle of a same-sex relationship. I think they do a really good job of showing Sasaki wrangling with his feelings. But one thing I thought was interesting is that there is already at least one same-sex couple at the school and it doesn’t seem to be weird to anyone. Hopefully, there is more of that and we just focus on the romance and less on whether them loving each other is wrong when we all know it’s not.
