English Dub Review: Sabikui Bisco “Ride the Crab”
Overview
Milo and Bisco head toward Touhoku in search of the legendary mushroom, Rust-Eater. After reuniting with their friend, the giant crab Actagawa, Milo struggles with his training to ride the crab but ends up communicating with it thanks to his kindness. That night the two of them try to rest at the Nikkou War Memorial only to once again encounter a girl nicknamed “Jellyfish” they met in Imihama…
Our Take
Milo and Bisco so far seem to have a nice but odd dynamic. But realistically, it doesn’t seem they’ll immediately get along just yet, but at least they both cover for their shortcomings, however, Bisco isn’t as dumb as he seems to be at times. Especially very knowledgeable of the current world. Their journey to find the Rust Eater Mushroom is not going to be easy, traversing through rough terrains, monsters, and even the Imihama Watch. Good thing there’s Actagawa who is Bisco’s towering Crab companion. Who design-wise reminds me of the giant hermit crab from Metal Slug 3 with a tank as its shell. But much like a wild & unruly horse, this creature isn’t going to instantly warm up to a stranger’s presence, so trying to master this crab and earn its trust is a load of work on Milo’s part because it is quite handy as a trump card, as proven before they left the city.
They later crossed paths with Tirol Ōchagama (Nicknamed “Jellyfish” for her strange hairstyle) who was affiliated with the governor, who comes across as untrustworthy, yet It’s unspecified why she’s even out here in the desert, but Milo later saves her ass in an unexpected gross-out scene that has to be seen to be believed that also reveals a more sadistic side to Tirol’s ex-boss, Kurokawa, and how much of a brutal grip he has on his henchmen.
A lot happened in this episode, I’m a bit put off by the lack of transitions not telling us how much time has passed, but still, the proceedings were fairly fun despite those flaws, especially all the scenes with Actagawa. The world-building & atmosphere in this anime kinda make up for some of these flaws and leave you to wonder how the later episodes will take care of Jabi and Pawoo because they both seem very defenseless for health reasons. Hopefully, all those questions will be properly answered and explained to the audience whose side Tirol is really on since she switched from being a mafia pawn to just a common merchant in a day or two…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
