English Dub Review: My Dress-Up Darling: “Then Why Don’t We?”

Overview: Marin (Amanda Lee) and Gojo (Paul Dateh) go shopping to pick out clothes and accessories for the Shizuku-tan cosplay outfit.

Our Take: With this episode, it becomes increasingly clear just how lovable Marin is and how she very much acts a genuine ray of sunshine for Gojo while also setting the tone for the episode. With Gojo doubting his role in his friendship with Marin and the misconceptions people will come to about their relationship, it would be easy to see how they could make this go down a melodramatic roadblock as they question their bond. However, Marin’s character bucks that trend by being funny and cute as hell to watch in her adorable quirkiness in looking for Gojo while putting all that pettiness and insecurity aside showing just how developed and mature she is.

Gojo is no slouch when it comes to his work ethic, showing his attention to detail about Shizuku-tan’s character and her pedigree associated with her wardrobe. Marin has up to this point been shown to be an upbeat gal with only the subtlest of hints of a past with how passionately she convinced Gojo to stand up for himself. However, we finally see the cracks of insecurity she feels as that he has already become more knowledge than her and is taking her request seriously, allowing her to fully appreciate

Gojo is a heartfelt romantic that becomes increasingly evident and we get a deeper look at his ethics in how he takes the definition of beauty seriously, doesn’t throw it around it willy nilly, and only deems something that evokes similar feelings to that of his first experience with China dolls. While she does not share the exact same ideology as Gojo, we see how Marin continues to understand and relate with his passions in having her own moral codes that she will not buckle on. Marin also shows her own insecurities in how she recognizes that her enthusiasm can turn people off and drive them away. Making for a sweet ending, Marin fully appreciates Gojo taking the time to understand and respect her interests, making their relationship even more wholesome and down-to-earth as it progresses.
