Review: The Smurfs “Chef Soup/Adventures in Smurfsitting”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Chef Soup
Chef leaves the village after Brainy criticizes his cuisine.
Adventures in Smurfsitting
Clumsy and Dimwitty want the Smurfs to feel like they’re both helpful, so they are tasked with taking care of Baby.
Our Take:
The first episode, “Chef Soup”, centers on Chef Smurf, who left Smurf village when Brainy judges his muffins way too harshly. After getting captured by the ogres, Chef has to cook food for the giant oafs to avoid becoming their next meal. Meanwhile, Papa and the other Smurfs search for a replacement chef.
This is another episode that focuses on Chef Smurf, who can be pretty sensitive when it comes to his food. After getting on my nerves in his previous outing, “Kitchen Klutz”, the character attempted to redeem himself in “Chef Soup”, and the result is a suitable and tasty treat. Even though it didn’t get the message about criticism across, the episode compensated with a tasteful plot that showcases Chef’s significant role in Smurf village and its enjoyable humor. The main highlight of the comedy was the failed attempts at replacing Chef, including Brainy, who makes spicy jello.
The second episode, “Adventures in Smurfsitting”, takes the Adventures in Babysitting approach by making Dimwitty and Clumsy babysitters. Believing that they’re not helpful enough, the two Smurfs decide to babysit Baby for Papa to prove their worth. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done as Baby runs away from the village, forcing Clumsy and Dimwitty to go on a wild goose chase. This fun and comical episode features two gullible yet innocent Smurfs trying to make themselves as important as the others. The humor might not be as hilarious as the previous episode, but the sight of Gargamel being outsmarted by a baby Smurf quickly makes up for it.
Overall, both episodes are delectable treats seasoned with charm and slapstick humor. “Chef Soup” delivered a delicious improvement over Chef’s previous misadventure. “Adventures in Smurfsitting” is basically a Smurfy and child-friendly version of Adventures in Babysitting filled with fun scenarios and an amusing finale involving Baby and Gargamel. With how enjoyable they are, it’s safe to say that they’re once again safe from my sense of harsh criticism.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
