English Dub Review: Rumble Garanndoll “See That? A (Surprisingly) Stunning Comeback!”

Overview

Unable to awaken Rin’s inspiration, Kudo Hosomichi causes her to fall unconscious when the Garanndoll closes. To bring her back, he enters her dreams to reconnect with her. In doing so, he realizes that he may need to reconnect with himself first…

Our Take

As a character, Rin is quite attached to the hero Zaburn influence from anime, but the last battle totally shot her confidence down to lose all passion while Hosomichi goes full-on psyche-diving into Rin’s mentality. She clearly wants to play the hero role, but given her current mental state, she’s more into the concept of making a “brave sacrifice” than anything to stop the True Army (led by Hayate Makami) in their tracks.

The relationship between Kudo and Rin has a really similar juxtaposition that mirror’s another Anime called “Chu-2” where a girl is mentally not ready to grow up while the guy wants to forget his adolescent past, but is inspired to cherish his youthful thoughts and ideas. Also, I can’t be the only one to notice this reference but Rin has to put her ass right in front of Kudo’s face to go full power? Their piloting positions look similar to another anime called “Darling in the FranXX” minus the blatant sex jokes that FranXX was usually known for.

Overall this was another passable episode. We learn a great deal of the functionality behind how the mechs work this time around while the plot relied on character building. It still remains a somewhat a fun time, although it still takes itself too seriously and some of that fanservice is just ridiculous but at the very least it’s an entertaining kind of ridiculous that leaves you rooting for the gung-ho action proceedings especially with the music in tandem with the colorful visuals leave me wanting more.
