English Dub Review: Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan “Subzero Spiral”

Overview:

The summer music video they shot in the winter is airing now. So it would be a great idea to do a winter video in the summer. It goes as well as the last time until Kumatani gets fed up and blows up on Derekida. This leads to everyone talking about how Kumatani got fired from his previous job.

Our Take:

At first, I thought them reusing the same gag was going to be boring and lazy. But luckily it was set up for a little bit of Kumatani’s backstory. He blows up on Derekida and forces him to wear the bear suit in the sweltering heat to get a taste of it. This lead to everyone discussing Kumatani’s past.

He apparently punched out his previous supervisor and Kumatani seems a decent guy so there had to be a reason right? Apparently, the supervisor was messing with a defenseless kitten to impress some girls. I probably would have punched him out too.

This episode had some funny parts to be sure but it was a bit more serious. The funniest bits were Derekida’s interactions with Kumatani after his blowup. You would think he did way worse to the poor guy. To be fair Derekida deserved a little bit of it for all the stuff he puts the crew through. The music video didn’t even turn out that good…

Another solid episode from Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan. I feel like the picture will become clearer once we get to the end of the season but so far it’s a good show. I don’t have any major complaints, it’s a fun slice of life dark comedy. No big plot and I don’t think there has to be. I’ll stay tuned for what happens next on Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan.
