Our Take:
Can you smell what the Smurf is cooking? If so, then I bet it smells delicious. This week brings us the defenders of Smurf village and a disaster in the kitchen that’ll leave Remy from Ratatouille feeling disappointed.
The first episode, “The Majestic 5”, involves Papa and Hefty picking out members of a special brigade. Unfortunately, what they chose is more than what they bargained for. The volunteers they picked out via an election are Dimwitty, Lazy, Scaredy, Clumsy, and Baby. When Gargamel captures the Smurfs with his paralyzing balls, the five chosen Smurfs will have to rescue them. This is another fun episode that features Gargamel’s plan being foiled by the little blue creatures and his twisted ankle. It also shows that even the pointless Smurfs can be heroes as well.
The second episode, “Kitchen Klutz”, focuses on Chef’s intolerance towards Clumsy and his cooking. When Clumsy saves Chef from a rock that he accidentally knocked down, Chef allows Clumsy to be his assistant. But, of course, things don’t go the way they planned as Clumsy causes a few missteps with his assisting and cooking techniques.
I didn’t know what to think about this episode. While it isn’t without a few funny moments, the story felt like it was putting its viewers against Chef regarding the scenario. In other words, the episode turned Chef into a jerk. Sure, Clumsy almost killed Chef several times and made some terrible food, but he’s clumsy, hence the name. What else would Chef expect from him? However, I can’t be too mad at this episode since everyone liked Clumsy’s flam, including Chef, during the ending.
Overall, both of these episodes were delicious enough to be the right defenders for the job. “The Majestic 5” was the best of the bunch due to its slapstick and story involving the lesser-known Smurfs. “Kitchen Klutz” is a fine enough episode that features Clumsy being…well, clumsy. I just wish that Chef wasn’t such a butthole to him because of his personality.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
