Our Take
Long before the obscure DC property struck gold thanks to the success of the HBO Max’s current live-action series, the existence of the Doom Patrol has been the subject of controversy and debate amongst comic book fans as it shares a weird paralleled history with Marvel’s X-Men. As both comics made their Debut in the 1960s and just so happened to commonly share the story of a wheelchair-bound genius gathering an unusual group of misfits together in his mysterious mansion and forging them into a fighting unit/diverse family of heroes fighting for a world that hates and fears them which may/may not give off plagiarist vibes.
For the first half, much of the humor is less about Beast Boy returning home and being taken prisoner like in past episodes that the Doom Patrol, and more about them trying to make a parade float to impress Elasti-Girl as she’s become sort of the mom in the family which leads to wacky physical comedic hijinx. While the other half was more of a comedic take on the origin stories of the Doom Patrol themselves that tries to remove all the tragic aspects of each of their origins while all sharing the common theme that they met “The Chief” who much like his comic rendition may not be as altruistic as he seems…
Overall, both halves were fun yet serviceable. The animation and art style are colorful, simplistic, and well-paced. And given how Beast Boy-focused this sort-of is, we get to see another side of him that DC up until the success of the HBO Max show has frequently glossed over a few times in many different renditions of Beast Boy throughout pop culture since his first official animated debut in Glen Murakami’s popular 2003 Teen Titans series. But for better or worse, I can understand this is meant for kids…

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
