Review: Squidbillies “No Space Like Home” ; “Scorn on the 4th of July”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

“No Space Like Home”

We come across a forty-year-old storage unit once leased by Ga Ga Cuyler that goes claimed to someone else leaving behind a bunch of memories for Early to help clean out. The most prominent of which is a collection of animal bones that were used as part of swindlers tricks so that the boys could make off with free stuff. Eventually, they get caught and sent to jail, a tradition that Early passes on to his son.

“Scorn on the 4th of July”

Early and the town’s veterans are all just fake veterans donning merchandise from a popular war video game. Denny’s probably the only one that really deserves to be a veteran after saving Early in a botched stunt, but is also just awarded with video game merch.

Our Take

I couldn’t help but think the throwback episode “No Space Like Home” could have been an obvious solution for Unknown Hinson’s unceremonious exit from Squidbillies as the voice of Early. A whole season of Jesco White’s Ga Ga raising what would eventually be Early would’ve made for a much more entertaining season. In fact, I can’t help but think that the writers of the show are pulling some punches in spots that could’ve been more crass with Stu in the driver’s seat. Clearly, Tracy and his agents may not be privy to say some of the same dialogue that Stu would’ve been fine with saying, as such, possible modifications were made for a more palatable series. A throwback season with Ga Ga could’ve helped us avoid this mess.
