English Dub Review: Kageki Shojo!!”A Once-in-a-Century Autumn”

Overview

Sarasa gets chosen to be the substitute for the Spring Troupe’s relay race which is an event that happens every 10 years. and is serving under the leadership of its top star, Shiina. This earned Sarasa more envy, especially among the second-years; and became the target of Hijiri’s bullying, which sent her nervous going into the Sports Festival event…

Our Take

This episode also shows how Sarasa tackles her own insecurities by using imagery that feels what she wants to be – a strong but pretty feminine character. The Kouka Grand Sports Festival truly is one of prestige that’s like your usual cliché school sports festival storyline.

Sarasa’s fright is even worse than Ai or the others, but since the Superiors picked her, there is no backing out of this, and her caretaker Risa does the pep talk for confidence. I also liked how Sarasa handled the relay race when Satomi bumped into her, entertained everyone which their school is all about while also letting Satomi get the spotlight.

Overall, this is a good show. At times, there haven’t been many shows within anime that handle specific topics better than this, but what keeps me from giving this episode a higher rating is the forced drama here and there. Seriously, It feels like Hijiri’s only purpose as a character in the story is to be a toxic bitch who much like Reggie Mantle from the Archie Comics, instantly disappears until her toxicity is needed again…
