English Dub Review: Getter Robo Arc “Final Episode: The Never-ending Battle”

Overview:

Two warriors confront each other in the skies over Tokyo. Both desire peace, but fate has given them no choice but to fight. What future lies beyond this unavoidable battle?

Our Take:

All I can really say about Getter Robo Arc is what a disappointment. It started really rough but showed quite a bit of promise but then it felt like it jumped the shark. I have next to no idea what was supposed to be happening in the last few episodes. There was even a post-credits scene that suggests there’s a lot more to this story. But they say this is the final episode so I’m not sure but I know Getter has been going for a long time so I guess another series isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

The only positive I can really think of for this episode is that the beginning was really cool. Never thought Jin would be such a badass but he took it to Kamui’s soldiers. But he let Kamui shoot him while going down some stairs. I really hate scenes like that, where they just turn their back on the person who wants to kill them. I get that it’s trying to be poignant or something but it almost always falls flat for me.

This show got all over the place and felt like a lot of the source was skipped for time purposes. I understand some stuff will be cut in most cases but the story should still make some sense. Understanding I am not super familiar with Getter is one thing but I could at least follow along early on but by the end, I was lost.

I will go into more detail with the season review but this one is an easy “skip” for me. Unless you are the biggest Getter fan out there or something. But it felt like even they would be lost by what is going on most of the time. It makes me question just who exactly this show is meant for.
