Our Take:
After taking a week-long break, The Smurfs is back to deliver another batch of episodes. Since Halloween is around the corner, we would think it would have another spooky episode under its smurfy tool belt. Sadly, that is not the case. Although, it does have some stories that put our attention on the other lesser-known Smurfs.
Its first episode, “Bringing Up Smurfy”, placed the show’s attention on Dimwitty Smurf. While saying hello to every part of the forest, Dimwitty encounters a stranded egg. He then decides to hatch it and become its parent. Unfortunately, his “parenting skills” resulted in his child, “Junior”, running amok around Smurf Village. Dimwitty is the Patrick Star of The Smurfs as his mindset wasn’t always perfect, but his heart was in the right place…sort of. While it doesn’t have a lot of fresh ideas for its formula, it does offer plenty of charm and amusement in seeing Dimwitty taking on the responsibilities of parenthood.
Its second episode, “The Makeover”, centers on a competition between Vanity Smurf and Tailor Smurf. After Vanity has a dream, he and Tailor decide to make that dream a reality by creating new uniforms for the Smurfs. Because white pants and white hats are so 1980s. However, Jokey’s heinous prank causes a creative argument between Vanity and Tailor, resulting in a Fashion Showdown that divides the Smurfs. It’s a suitable episode that features plenty of humor and Tailor’s clown attire. Although, its direction towards it wasn’t as fashionable as the characters’ attire. The biggest problem with it was that Jokey didn’t receive any consequences for starting the whole ruckus in the first place.
Overall, both of these episodes put the spotlight on three different Smurfs with satisfying results. “Bringing Up Smurfy” is the best of the bunch, mainly because of Dimwitty and the tolerable execution of its formula. “The Makeover” is a fine watch that sadly lets Jokey go unpunished. Joke or not, that smurf should answer to his crimes against fashion! So far, the show has been doing a swell job at balancing its focus on the background Smurfs with the main ones, and I hope it continues with that direction in the future.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
