The team fight another hypnotizing ghost during a movie shoot; Later, Mike learns to say things more simply when the team faces a spore spreading ghost.

OUR TAKE

Anyone else starting to feel like these are blending together? I mean, this is yet another ghost that has a pink aura and forces those hit effects to say its name over and over. Maybe there’s some potential worldbuilding there about the types of ghosts that are out there, but I doubt it. At least the fungus ghost seemed a little more unique. Then again, watching so many of these episodes at once are inevitably going to make some things blur. Seems like the only big thing we learned this week is that Andy and Liv’s parents make movies, which along with Mike’s basketball playing dad, doesn’t make them the most relatable protagonists in the world. I dunno, perhaps it’s the fact that I’ve seen other shows be at least a bit more thought out in how their monster of the week battles go, but I feel like there could stand to be a bit more comprehensive detail regarding how the ghosts are described and beaten, as well as how it develops the characters. The three have ghosts they tamed use to do special attacks that I assume they had to fight initially, but then they’ve captured a dozen of these wild ghosts now and we’ve yet to see them be used.

I’m just saying, it would be a cool Megaman style way of developing their powers and give the kids maybe some pathways to character arcs? Honestly, I kinda thought that Glowboo was another ghost they tamed that just got a full body, mainly because a ghost possessing a robot is just an inherently cool idea that is too cool to pass up. But pass it up they did, at least based on what we’ve seen so far. Am I just spoiled from seeing better cartoons like this throughout my life and now I’m putting unrealistic expectations on GhostForce? I don’t THINK I am, but it just feels like there’s so much potentially cool stuff they could be doing that’s just being left on the table. Or maybe, like with Ladybug, I’m just being impatient and the cool stuff will come, just not exactly how I’ll expect. They’ve still got at least two unused colors in the rainbow to make into GhostForce members, and I bet they can’t pass up a chance to make more toys. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Four more episodes for this week!
