English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “Clara’s House”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
To recover from the drama at Walter Park, Iruma and Asmodeus stay with Clara and her family, all of whom have same weird gremlin energy she has. While the two bond with them, they face a giant monster made up of food.
OUR TAKE
After the surprising intensity and wide assortment of development for pretty much all the main and supporting cast in the Walter Park arc, it was honestly time for a breather to cool things down. That said, we’re pretty much in for cool down episodes for the remainder of the season, but thankfully they’re all good for character growth and showing how far they’ve come. For example, in addition to being a welcome contrast to things ramping up like they have been the past few episodes, this gives us a better chance to see how much the main three friends have grown together over this and last season. Looking back at the start of the series, Iruma won over Asmodeus pretty much by accident, while Clara was used to being used as a delivery girl to old onto what few friends she had and only stuck with Iruma because he showed her genuine kindness for once. And while we’d seen her family and their oddly well produced musical numbers in the past, we’re getting a clear view of how they value being genuine, no matter how weird someone is. And as we see here, Clara’s family is pretty friggin weird, though mostly in wholesome ways.
And to really blow out the strangeness factor is the climax of the episode, which sees the group fighting a giant shark beast that is covered from head to toe in vegetables and herbs. Yeah, we’ve kind of had a lot of giant monster fights lately in this show, but obviously the tone is quite different with this one. For starters, it’s obviously not putting anyone’s life in danger, and it’s clearly designed this way because they’re hunting it for food. Also, a big food shark is pretty dang funny. Lastly, the episode closes with Clara helping her friends fall asleep, showing how their bonds have grown strong since they became friends. This will probably be the last time we’ll get as much focus as this on this trio for the remainder of the season, but it’s a very pleasant way to put a bow on this dynamic. For the last two episodes, we’ll be getting some spotlight on Iruma and Ameri and then setting up major developments to come in the already confirmed third season, so hopefully those episodes will have the same strong character writing as these have had. We’ll see in the following two weeks!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
