English Dub Review: Strike Witches – World Witches Take Off! “501st, You’re Going Back to that Sky?”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The 501st finally have a proper reunion party.

OUR TAKE

Well, that wraps up the Strike Witches side of this parody series, and it’s pretty much just a wrap up of what little story their segments had in the first place. So, once again I gotta come up with something to say about ten minutes that are not really about very much at all, which is a bit of a struggle. Everyone gets a chance to do their expected bits again, it all feels like it reaches a sense of closure and completion, but there wasn’t really very many stakes in the first place so it’s not a whole lot. After all, the whole plotline of this half of the series was just about getting the team back together for a proposed documentary, which I guess they finished. I don’t wanna be too mean, but I think it’s fair to say that the point of this series wasn’t to have much to really pick apart like this. It’s just a bunch of fun sketches with cute girl characters without the action that’s half the appeal of the franchise anyway. What else do you want? What else is there to expect? What else is there to possibly say about World Witches Take Off?

I mean, I don’t wanna pull my punches either if I can help it. This isn’t a particularly funny show either, and without the cute recognizable characters, I wouldn’t have any reason to care. Which is why reviewing the Brave Witches episodes are considerably more difficult since I haven’t watched other stuff with those characters, so I don’t have as much of a frame of reference for them. But it doesn’t help much with the Strike Witches stuff either because, again, it’s pretty much putting all its weight on the comedy, and comedy is the most subjective thing in the world, but I’m not laughing and I don’t think this series is really well regarded anyway, so…yeah. It’s ultimately one more disposable piece of this franchise to throw on the pile. If you like it with the rest of the seasons, then great! I assume that you don’t have to write dozens of hundreds of words about it either, which I can only imagine makes for a much more enjoyable experience. Anyway, next time we’ll tackle the last Brave Witches related episode, with special guest Yoshika Miyafuji! What is this, a crossover episode? Oh, of course not, because that might be interesting.
