English Dub Review: Sonny Boy “Leaping Classroom”

Overview:

Nagara and his friends are attempting to “conquer” worlds. By conquering this mouse world they get a computer mouse that has the ability to unravel things. There are a few such items in Rajdhani’s possession, like glasses that let you see what someone will look like old. The teacher that showed up last time is Ms. Aki. She doesn’t think anyone can get back and that it’s Nagara’s fault that everyone is adrift. She seems to take an interest in Asakaze. What could be the key to the drifting classroom?

Our Take:

I don’t think there’s such a thing as good or bad guys in this show. This is honestly kind of refreshing, but Ms. Aki might be the closest thing to a bad guy we are going to get. She arrives and immediately starts making things tense and stirring the pot. She seems to think that everything is Nagara’s fault. He’s the one that set everyone adrift and since his power is “Escape” that is one-way travel and they can never return.

Meanwhile, Nagara and his friends are attempting to understand everything by “Conquering” worlds. It’s not clear what that means but in the one they go to it is to capture a mouse. Which then turns into a computer mouse. Have I mentioned this show is weird? It’s very fun and enjoyable but definitely hard to understand if we are even meant to understand it in the first place.

As far as Ms. Aki is concerned I hope we get some more exploration of her character. You can’t present a villain-esque character and not explain her motivations. This show has been pretty good with the characters making sense at least so I think we will be okay there. Ms. Aki’s voice actress sounds a lot like Trina Nishimura but I will try to get confirmation first. If it is her she is an amazing addition to the cast and makes me more excited to see more from Ms. Aki. Let’s see what weirdness Sonny Boy has in store for us next time.
