English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “Walter Park”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Misfit Class spend their vacation time at Walter Park, and demon amusement park, not knowing that Ami Kirio, a criminal who formerly ran the Magical Apparatus Battler, is stationed with numerous other criminals below them, as criminals apparently power the park.

OUR TAKE
We have another new arc upon us, this time taking up six episodes, making it the longest arc of the season. And while it seems to be starting off on a positive and happy note, it seems to be heading towards real plot territory. The biggest indicator of this would be the reintroduction of Kirio, who was in the last arc with major stakes that ended up connected to bigger stakes and consequences. If you don’t remember it, that’s fine, it’s been awhile. That arc focused on Iruma, Asomodeus, and Clara looking for a club (or Battler) to join and ending up with the Magical Apparatus Battler, whose nature I still cannot pin down to this very day. But if he’s back, this cannot mean anything good for our characters. For me, it’s actually really good because it seems to be hinting at more interesting things to come. And while these characters are probably interesting enough that I honestly could just watch them messing around at an amusement park for several episodes, I think this is probably a better direction. Also, it’s kinda weird that an amusement park is being powered by criminals in the first place, though I guess that’s where the “demonic” aspects come into play. My point is, things are brewing in this park that are likely to come a head soon.

As for the funner bits in the episode, it was kinda cute how Ameri thought she was going on a date with Iruma but actually it was a group thing. And how we got Balam and Opera in as extra chaperones to split up the kids into groups that will no doubt lead to interesting character interactions, although I guess they thought that it was good to put all the girls in one group. Which makes a bit of sense considering they had a fun bit a couple episodes ago. We also got the return of Ronove Romeire, the semi-antagonist from the first few episodes of this season, who is apparently the son of this world’s version of Walt Disney! I don’t expect that to come into play much, but it’s a neat little character detail, and he was a fun enough character that it’s cool to see him again. Overall, a pretty good but slow start to an arc that’s going to be ramping up sooner rather than later, and by sooner, I mean next week.
