English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “The Name of This Feeling”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Kalego’s team manage to incapacitate the blue bull monster, but when that doesn’t take, Kalego is forced to make the finishing blow. Ameri and Opera face off against the yellow mouse monster, with Ameri making use of her family’s bloodline ability to gain even greater power and defeat it. Meanwhile, Iruma makes use of his anger to save kids stuck around the wreckage of Walter Park, while Asmodeus and Sabnock prepare to face the red dragon monster.
OUR TAKE
I’ve watched a few episodes ahead of this to the end of the arc, so I’m a bit surprised to find out that it’ll pretty much just be fighting these giant monsters for the remainder of it. I have mixed feelings about this. I’m a little let down because I expected us to see more about the Six Fingers and get another scene between Iruma and Shiida, which we sadly won’t be getting, at least not for now. But on the bright side, these giant monster fights are proving to be excellent ways of showing off more of the supporting cast who weren’t very well fleshed out before, as well as main cast members who I didn’t really feel that strongly about to begin with, like Asmodeus, who I’ll get to next week when his fight is up. But for this week, we get a double whammy with Kalego’s team, who I went into a bit last week, putting up a good fight against Mountain Blue, the bull, and Ameri showing new moves against a giant mouse.
This fight both shows off their unique skills on display (as well as a conveniently revealed whistle that just so happened to be great to use when getting into a giant monster ear), but it also shows Kalego’s teaching style, with him staying on the sidelines to give his students a chance to show how far they’ve come, and only getting involved when he has to. Kalego has consistently shown that he prioritizes giving his students opportunities to learn and grow, even if he needs to give them impossible tasks to do so. Th needing of signatures to get access to the Royal One was a bit on the mean side, but this is a situation where his students could very likely die without supervision (although we as the audience know that no one is going to die), so he gives them some room to try their best but steps in when they’re in actual danger. That’s some nuanced characterization!
Meanwhile, Ameri has shown to be an exceptionally powerful demon already, and revealing that she has the ability to will herself to be even more powerful is a bit overpowered, but it seems to have the drawback of needing to be absolutely sure of one’s own power in order to make it work, so if she doubts herself or believes the enemy could beat her, then it will happen. So there is a bit of legitimate risk there, interestingly enough. Both really good fights, both in action and character development. Let’s see how the next one goes next week, as well as what seems to be a combining of all three monsters!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
