English Dub Review: Sonny Boy “Aliens”

Overview:

The students find themselves in a new world on an island. Things start to mysteriously burn and everyone thinks it’s Mizuho’s fault. In actuality, this world just has a unique set of rules. If Mizuho is not given adequate compensation for the items she creates for people they burn up. Rajdhani then creates a currency everyone can use to sidestep this problem.

Our Take:

This show is super trippy, but in a good way, so far at least. It seems like there are multiple worlds out there and I can’t wait to see how different those ones are. There is so much mystery going on with not only the worlds they find themselves in but some of the characters as well. The character that got the most focus in this episode was Mizuho and I think she might end being one of my favorites.

Mizuho has the ability to create items so it stands to reason she is a pretty vital piece to the castaway’s survival. It doesn’t take long for everyone to turn on her when the items she gives them begin to burn though, which I think is an interesting look into how awful humans can be. Mizuho starts to realize what’s happening and does make wads of money appear over the island which eventually burns the island down so she is not completely blameless. But in her defense, this was after she was accused and even attacked in her house. Doesn’t make it right but she isn’t downright evil either, and the way this island works everything went back to normal right afterward so no harm no foul right?

I had to keep checking the cast list to see who played Mizuho because I was pretty sure it was Tia Ballard. Which it is but it doesn’t sound like her. I love Tia and can usually tell her a mile away so this is kind of awesome to hear flexing a bit of her vocal range. With all the setup Mizuho got this episode I am hopeful she will be a big part of the show moving forward.

Speaking of characters having an impact, I think there is something to Nozomi. She is super mysterious and transferred to this school right before all this craziness happened. I don’t think she is causing it but I just bet there’s something more to her. Her name means “hope” so perhaps that is what she will provide? This show is really fun and definitely makes you think, you better be paying attention while you watch that’s for sure.
