English Dub Review: Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan “Wash Your Hands and Gargle”
Overview:
Iketeru and Uramichi dress up for a segment. Uramichi is Bacterian, while Iketeru is Jerminator but they keep getting the names switched up. Some ladies who believe in God knock on Uramichi’s door asking if he believes, they didn’t know what they were getting into. Back at the studio some of the children ask him to draw characters from a magical girl show and he just scares them. Iketeru in the meantime draws them perfectly drawing the ire of Uramichi.
Our Take:
Don’t get me wrong I definitely laugh and this show is worth your time. But the real factor sometimes comes in and it gets too relatable. Uramichi is asked if he believes in God and his response was “I don’t even believe in myself, how can I believe in God?” I felt that. My guy Uramichi is just doing his best, when something he doesn’t want to do comes up at work he just tells himself “This is for my survival!”. He takes it all with a smile on his face… most of the time anyway.
Most of what makes this show so funny are Uramichi’s reactions to everything. Iketeru accidentally nails him in the face with a ball during their segment and looks like he is going to kill him. The characters with the best interactions though are Uramichi and the two guys in the animal costumes.
Usahara and Kumatani dress in rabbit and bear costumes respectively. Their names are even a pun because the Japanese word for rabbit is “Usagi” and the Japanese word for bear is “Kuma”. Kumatani’s is more on the nose than Usahara but hey the prefix is there. Usahara is constantly doing things to make life harder for Uramichi but is also really scared of him. Meanwhile, Kumatani constantly throws Usahara under the bus which makes for some great gags.
Kumatani is voiced by Howard Wang and his delivery of the deadpan humor is fantastic. Meanwhile, Usahara is voiced by Ray Chase. I was really surprised when I saw that because he is usually voicing the main character. But he brings his all with even the smaller roles and he knocks it out of the park in this one as well.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
