English Dub Review: I’m Standing on a Million Lives “Yana & Aoiu Are the Vaikedaam”

Overview:

The heroes and mercenaries are preparing to fight the orcs. Yusuke feels left out because his skills leave him vulnerable to orcs. He decides to level up his class to try and get a new better one. The only thing is he apparently has horrible luck, when he does the job roulette again he gets the blacksmith class. He does however make a weapon that could take down an orc and can mass-produce it. It took everything they had to beat one orc and now a bunch of them are attacking!

Our Take:

One thing I really like about I’m Standing on a Million Lives over other isekai is no one is overpowered. Even the people who have “good” classes aren’t great. They can only do so much and meanwhile, Yusuke is out here repping the blue-collar worker. So far he’s been a farmer, chef, blacksmith, and also a creature wizard. Only one of those isn’t some form of laborer and I find that hilarious. I actually really like how he makes the best of it though, maybe when he gets a better class later he will be overpowered but I like the status quo right now.

Fights and everything is a little more interesting with characters having to think a little more.  Yusuke is kind of a loner and seems to somehow always end up separated from the group one way or another. In this case, it’s because he needs to level up and the only way to do that is doing class-specific skills. Since there are no monsters nearby he has to resort to farming to level up. While doing this he comes up with some new farming methods that might help the island of Jiffon.

Two characters that got a little more screen time this week were Yana and Aoiu. They were introduced last week and are the Vaikedaam which are essentially ritual dancers. I enjoyed them a lot in this episode they brought some good humor. Apparently, they have to remain virgins to be dancers. It’s not that they’re taking their duty seriously, they just haven’t met anyone cause of the orcs. They offer to sing a song to help Yusuke while he works and it ends up just being a typical idol song. Yusuke wasn’t impressed but I like idol songs so I was into it.

One character I don’t enjoy is Keita, that dude is super annoying. For one he thinks he and Iu are already a thing, and two he overestimates himself way too much. I hope that changes as the season goes on but as of right now he’s just annoying. Still have no idea about the voice actor yet. With the orcs attacking I am interested to see how they survive with them being super unprepared.
