English Dub Review: Getter Robo Arc “On a Gorgeous Night”

Overview:

McDonald disappears just as quickly as he appeared which calms Takuma down. There seem to be some ghosts wandering the lab. They lead Takuma, Baku, and Kamui to an old part of the lab. Here they start to witness past events.

Our Take:

I have no idea how long this series is going to go but if it keeps building like this every episode it could be good. It’s campy and cheesy to be sure but it’s also really endearing. There’s something about an old-school sci-fi story that just feels… right. I know nostalgia is a huge thing right now and if that is your cup of tea this might be the show for you.

I won’t claim to understand what’s going on. Right now everything is so weird and wild that it can’t make sense at the moment. I mean there are ghosts and somehow they end up witnessing a past event? I don’t know how that works and honestly, I doubt they will explain it. Just suspend your disbelief and go with it. Trust me you will enjoy it that way.

The animation for the fights is really good. This episode had a really good one that was a treat to watch. I think I have mentioned they use CGI but it’s not too crazy or overbearing. Another thing this show does really well is the soundtrack. You can’t mention old sci-fi without mentioning some of those old sound effects. It is just a joy to listen to and the music hits the right tone depending on the scene.

I think this show is great for just shutting your brain off and having some mindless fun. So far at least. I don’t know if it will get more plot-heavy and in-depth later but for now it’s just fun. There isn’t much more I can ask for a show from that, and for a series, I knew nothing about it’s a pleasant surprise so far. Getter Robo Arc is slowly becoming something I am looking forward to each week.
