Review: Housebroken “Who Are You?”
Overview:
Honey has some important life choices to make when Coyote prompts her to run away with him to Altadena. However, she does get a glimpse at what life would be like through Diablo, who recently decided to live with his easygoing human father. Though tempted by the freedom of being wild, Honey can also weigh the value of a disciplined routine.
Tabitha and The Grey One make a bold discovery when they find an article about Max and George Clooney in People Magazine. Unfortunately, it is an obituary about the original hog pet, putting Max through an identity crisis.
Meanwhile, Nibbles is temporarily staying at Shel’s house. He is surprised to find other pets, including a rat and a snake. Though after the latter eats the former, Nibbles must make a bold decision about being a hero.
Our Take:
It was a big day for Housebroken. Chiefly, the series has returned to Fox after a long Olympic break. But more excitingly, it was also announced that Housebroken has been signed on for another season. A manoeuvre that took Fox long enough, considering this is arguably the best new animated series to hit Animation Domination in years.
Most of us are just ecstatic that the show is back on the air to its regular Monday night timeslot. The series has quickly grown on fans for being an entertaining satire of the pets that fill our world. But we have become invested through the ongoing plots that continue to develop as the show progresses.
Seemingly, this episode is the climax of one of the show’s primary plots involving Honey and her disloyal crush on the local Coyote. With Coyote and his pack heading out for Altadena, he makes one final stab at a life with the poodle. And it puts her on the spot to make a decision that she has been avoiding the entire series. However, it is unlikely that we won’t see Coyote again as he creates the most adversity for the franchise’s main character.
Alternatively, this episode dives into the lives of a couple of other characters that have not gained as much screentime as others.
Throughout the season, it has been a subtle joke that Max is the prized pet of movie star George Clooney. Although up until now, there hasn’t been more than a few comments on the arrangement. Thankfully this episode puts it in the forefront, and while the pig may not have been lying about his owner, it is much more complex than he believed.
Meanwhile, the adorable Nibbles finally gets a chance in the spotlight. The classroom pet gets temporarily adopted by Shel’s owner. Surprisingly, the strange old tortoise is the least of the gerbil’s concerns. When he meets a snake and an overtalkative rat, things escalate. And hopefully, we will be seeing much more of Nibble’s new friend, a half-digested rat named Lenny.
It is a good thing that we have the comfort of knowing there will be at least one more season of Housebroken. Between the large ensemble cast and the ever-growing plots, there is still much to be explored. This may not have been the most elaborate of episodes. Still, it does perpetuate the series as something much bigger than the other animated shows on Fox.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
