English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “End Test; Girls’ Talk”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
The Misfit Class concludes their exams and, to their surprise, no one fails. In fact, some go up a rank or two, though Iruma isn’t among them and just gets to keep the one he has. Everyone goes out to celebrate that night, though the girls all get together for some girl talk.
OUR TAKE
As mentioned last time, this arc pretty much ends half way through this episode, leaving the rest of it to basically just be about characters who don’t normally talk getting to talk. This whole matter with the exam hasn’t exactly been the highest stakes situation, but more about Iruma (and by the extension the audience) learning more about how the demon world works so he can still pretend to be a demon AND him making friends with a new teacher who can be another person who knows he is a human. So, mission accomplished, and said new character, Professor Balam, has already gone through his first big character design! Though if my cynical brain had to guess, I imagine getting rid of all of that hair was the author’s choice so he doesn’t need to keep drawing it. Did you know that the only reason that Dragon Ball Z’s Super Saiyan design is blond is because Akira Toriyama didn’t want to keep inking Goku’s hair at the time? Crazy right? Sometimes what becomes really iconic in the industry just comes out of necessity. Though I doubt Balam is going to end up being a breakout character in this series.
The second half, as mentioned, brings Ameri, Elizabetta, Crocell, and Clara together to gossip about stuff going on and to tease some possible love triangles down the road. As we’ve established earlier this season, Ameri is fully cognizant of her romantic feelings for Iruma, though now it seems that Clara may have some of those feelings brewing in her as well. We’ve definitely seen her be very caring towards Iruma and attempted to woo him in her own way, though she seems to be not quite mature enough to fully pursue those feelings. As for Crocell, she hasn’t had much on screen time with Iruma, though there have been enough moments where there may be some sparks forming there as well, even if she’s a very distant third behind Ameri and Clara. And that leaves Elizabetta, who I’m honestly surprised hasn’t gotten her own arc to herself by now considering how detailed her character design is. I don’t see much chance of her getting feelings for Iruma too, at least not like the OP seems to suggest, but you never know with these kinds of shows. Anyway, next week is another stand alone episode, this time focusing on Kalego and parent-teacher conferences!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
