English Dub Review: The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent “Capital”

 Overview (Spoilers Below):

After an awkward encounter Albert suggests an outing to town for Sei’s day off. Sei explores the town with Albert and when the sun goes down they return to the Institute. Albert gives Sei a hair ornament that got enchanted and Elizabeth notices it and mentions it’s customary for guys to give a gift with the color of their eyes to the girl they like.

Sei takes an interest in enchanting and gets to go to the Royal Magi Assembly to try out enchanting. While there she makes a big splash with her enchantments and gets one as compensation. Word of her success leaks out and a few weeks later she goes there again to help out with their rush of orders while receiving proper compensation. Afterward Sei gifts Albert some baked goods and the enchanted ornament she was given a few weeks ago.

Our Take:

This week’s episode was basically a date episode despite Sei’s denseness in the beginning. It was really cute, especially with Sei’s embarrassing facial expressions.

The first scene was hilarious while adding to the worldbuilding of customs in the kingdom and the rarity of ice mages. Then there’s the girl talk between Elizabeth and Sei which brings to light the romantic meaning of Albert’s gift. The anime does a good job of continuing to add subtle nudges to progress the episode from cooling off to the date and then the enchantments.

Even though Albert is your typical white knight, the execution of it throughout the episode was nice. The small comment on sneaking out to play around town with Johan definitely appeals like a mischievous charm. While his gift to Sei practically screamed out his intent to court her. The kiss on the back of Sei’s hand at the end was hilarious in its exaggerated display and Sei’s dazed thoughts after the intimate gesture.

Then there’s the enchantment part which delves into the holy attribute and its unique properties to enchanting the stones. This portion of the episode does show that in any world there’s bound to be crunch time. At the same time, Sei indirectly reveals her status as the Saint with the types of enhancement she can do in comparison to the high-level mages. The animation for the appraisal was unique with the magic circle in the appraiser’s eyes in comparison to other anime.

Overall the episode was a satisfying watch on Sei’s budding romance with Albert. The episode’s build-up to Sei as the Saint is decent, but not at all subtle.
