English Dub Review: So I’m a Spider, So What? “So I’m Still a Spider, So What?”

Overview

Spider-Lady has always sought a way to win the day, no matter how doomed she might seem. Shun has always readied his sword, no matter how bad the odds have looked. Where will these two indomitable wills ultimately find themselves? As a secret from across time is revealed, the connections are all made clear…

Our Take

Really enjoyed this season finale! The animation while not great,  was certainly a lot better than previous episodes. From the first to the last, the Spider-Lady ironically doesn’t make me feel like I’m watching a spider’s journey. She has come a long way. The animation was more solid than in the last couple of episodes so I’m glad that they took the time to fix things up. Definitely closing on a much higher note than anticipated.

Spider-Lady obviously was the highlight of this story as I enjoyed every scene she was in. She was a very captivating protagonist as her trials and tribulations were always fun and compelling to watch. The other side of the story with Shun and his friends left more to be desired but still, their screentime was enough to give their unraveling subplot had an actual purpose which eventually converged with Spider-Lady’s to the point that we could see how they affected one another.

While some parts of the animation were CGI, it was better than the previous few episodes. The only thing I would’ve liked better is a bit more time showing the reunion between Spider-Lady and Shun’s crew. It’s such a highly anticipated moment since the first half of episodes and feels like that quick meeting didn’t do it justice. Otherwise, it went as expected and Spider-Lady remains as silly as ever. This was definitely a show that had some issues but one I still had fun watching each week. I welcome to season 2 if it does happen but maybe give the staff a few years to make it so they have a better production so the animation is properly smoothed out.
