English Dub Review: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S “New Dragon, Ilulu! (Please Be Nice to Her Again)”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tohru gets a job at a maid cafe in an attempt to prove that she’s the best maid. Several days later Kobayashi and Kanna visit her and it turns out she ends up becoming the head chef. Later she makes their shop famous for her cursed recipes via word of mouth. Then in the news one day a mountain was destroyed leaving most humans puzzled at the method. Kobayashi and Tohru track down the other dragons and runs into Elma as a new dragon appears, Ilulu from the chaos faction.
While Tohru battles Ilulu Kobayashi tries to get Elma to help, but Elma can’t as a member of the Harmony faction. She explains that the other dragons won’t either consider their personalities and their respective factions. However, Kobayashi bribes Elma with sweets to put up a barrier. Tohru is able to unleash her power and send Ilulu back to their world. Ilulu grows curious about Kobayashi who tipped the fight in Tohru’s favor and goes back to the human world. After a conversation with Kobyashi and the differences between humans and dragons, Ilulu uses magic on Kobayashi and adds a little extra to her body.
Our Take:
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S is off to a wonderful start with the cute moments and exciting dragon fight. The voice acting was nice especially with the wholesome moments in the episode like with Kobayashi talking to Ilulu before she used magic to change Kobayashi’s private parts. The opening and ending were cute and had a nice beat going on with the animations.
For starters the animation for the fight between Ilulu and Tohru was epic. Each hit and magic spell was delivered with a stylish flourish. Also seeing Tohru get serious enough to blast Ilulu away to the point where it’s just black and white sells her overwhelming strength against Ilulu who is a little lower than Tohru on the dragon power level scale. There’s also that bit of dragon faction politics that Elma explains to Kobayashi. It makes it interesting to see Kobayashi bribing Elma to protect the city and indirectly help out Tohru.
There are also the cute and funny moments that made the episode entertaining like Tohru’s cursed omurice and job interview. Despite the fluffy moments, Ilulu’s conversation with Kobyashi on the train stuck out as the emotional conflict for Ilulu. Considering her dialogue she might have once had a similar situation like Tohru on trusting humans in the other world. While dragons and humans may be different, there’s still room to learn and trust each other as Kobayashi puts it. Ilulu might learn this through her interactions in the human world as the anime progresses and it has the potential for more wholesome moments.
Overall it’s an entertaining episode on Kobayashi’s daily life with dragons in her life. Hilarious shenanigans will definitely ensue with Ilulu’s prank, and I look forward to Tohru’s reaction.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
