English Dub Review: Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan “Uramichi-Oniisan”
Overview:
n the studio of the morning childrens’ show “Together with Maman,” a crew of miserable adults prepares their facades of amicable smiles and cheerful exteriors to educate a group of innocent preschoolers. In the middle of it stands Uramichi Omota, a former gymnast who can’t help but bring the kids down to earth by revealing the harsh and depressing reality of adulthood, even in front of the rolling cameras.
Our Take:
Alright, that was fantastic. If this show keeps it up we might have a comedy hit on our hands. I watched a couple of episodes of the sub and I am surprised that this somehow ended up making me laugh more. Maybe it’s the slight tweaks to the jokes or just the way Adam Gibbs delivers them, but I was laughing almost the whole time.
Adam Gibbs plays the titular Uramichi, who is a TV Oniisan. In this case, oniisan essentially means big brother, so he is like a sibling to the kids on the show. When I first heard Adam in this I thought he sounded a bit different and I wasn’t a fan at first. But then Uramichi went into his “adult” phase where he talks without a filter. It’s hilarious, I love Adam Gibbs and so I am excited to see what else he can do with this role. After one episode I’m sold though so hopefully there’s no fall off.
The comedy is almost too relatable with Uramichi lamenting all the problems of being an adult. One of my favorite lines is while playing peek-a-boo with a sad kid he tells them “As an adult, you have to cheer yourself up. If you’re sad too long, friends and family will pluck you from their life like a tick”. Like dang man, I didn’t realize this show was going to get quite so “real” but here we are.
If this show can keep up this kind of deadpan, relatable comedy we are in for a treat. I really like the rest of the voice cast but this episode was mostly an Uramichi one. I think the rest will shine in future episodes, I mean you can’t bring in Ray Chase and not use him. Keep your eyes on Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
