English Dub Review: I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level: “I Ate a Mushroom and Turned Into a Child”
Overview: When Azusa (Skyler Davenport) accidentally eats one of Halkara’s (Xanthe Huynh) mushrooms that shrinks her to the size of a child, she goes on a quest to the world tree with Vania (Allegra Clark) and Fatla to see a pharmacist that may have a cure to her adolescent dilemma.
Our Take: If the very self explanatory title didn’t already give it away, Azusa, of course due to Halkara’s comical negligence, is turned into that of a child after eating a mushroom. Or to be more precise, so small that she resembles one.
This is yet another fun charming ploy overall that the Killing Slimes is known for. Everyone petting Azusa and treating her like a kid is enjoyable and amusing throughout with various ways of doing so ranging from reading her a bedtime story, kids meals and brushing her hair.
After help from Beelzebub and Pecora, Azusa journeys to the dungeon world tree with Vania and Fatla. The ironic hilarity of the world tree being a tourist attraction and a money grubbing one at that is shown various different ways like that of incentivizing paying for elevators to different levels or charging more to previous floors is demonic business at its best. Or even just some of the deadly creatures of the floors being friendly and tamed animals. Before the eventual conclusion of their journey, surprisingly there is a nice moment between the demon siblings showcasing a friendly sisterhood that was refreshingly pleasant.
After reaching the 108th floor and getting the necessary ailment, it was revealed the cure all along were Eno’s pills that Azusa had previously known about and for that matter so did Pecora. Her scheming the whole thing was honestly pretty funny considering their entire dangerous trek through various dangerous floor conditions and beasts. The sisterly bath scene in which Azusa scolds Pecora about her practical joke was a bit overly mushing in regards to the writing but at the very least Pecora’s cheeky groping ended on a nice comedic note.
“I Ate a Mushroom and Turned Into a Child” is an entertaining little adventure for Azusa with some sweet and humorous moments with a tender one being overly so but does not change the overall quality of the episode as a whole.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
