English Dub Review: Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! “Reality x VR”

Overview:

After discovering the secret of Ted, Hiro faces off against Tesla. He taps into some powers and finally fights back. It isn’t enough and he ends up dying. His console gets fried but Reona offers to let him borrow one and a new copy of the game. And thanks to Kamui he figures out a way to get back into the game an hour before he died. Maybe things will go better this time?

Our Take:

Wow… this episode was actually good. Why couldn’t it have been like this for the previous eleven episodes? Not only that but there is some serious sequel bait and I am not a fan of that. Mainly because I feel like the chance of this getting a sequel season is next to zero.

Kamui lets on that he isn’t a total asshole since he knows how to restart before a death. Hiro is using the time without the game to get a little stronger and actually stands up to the bullies. We got twelve episodes of character development in one episode, which normally would be impressive but here it just feels… empty.

This episode was one of the best though and I will give credit where credit is due. The action was interesting and looked cool. Studio ENGI decided to flex this episode for some reason and it shows. Hiro actually kind of looked like a badass, which was the first time that has happened. This is where my only negative of the episode comes in. Why do they always have to make Hiro fail as laughably as possible?

Right, when he’s about to strike Tesla down the queen comes up behind him and kicks him. Allowing Tesla to torture and kill him. It lost its funny charm a few episodes ago to me. But I guess this is setting up a whole new arc that we will probably never get to see.

Unfortunately, if you want to reach out to the source it is not licensed in English currently. Maybe it will after this but I don’t think this show did that well. I’ll have more to say in the season review but for now I kind of need to decompress my feelings on this series. It wasn’t the worst but still… after a mostly awesome last episode it just feels like so much unfulfilled potential.
