Recap: GenLOCK Season 2 Panel For Comic-Con @ Home 2021

After nearly two and a half years since the first season ended, Rooster Teeth and Outlier Society’s gen:LOCK is finally returning with its next installment, though this time on HBO Max this Fall. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Maisie Williams, and David Tennant among others, gen:LOCK follows a crew of pilots in the not so distant future who can mentally link with giant robots to protect their society from invasion from the Union. Last season, main protagonist Julien Chase (played by Jordan) faced an evil counterpart named Nemesis and sacrificed use of his remaining body in order to defeat it. In Season 2, he and the rest of his team continue their struggle against the Union, including facing wave after wave of Nemesis bots. So much for that sacrifice I guess. Like with last year, a noticeable absence is creator and former showrunner Gray G. Haddock, whose poor managerial methods came to light not long after the first season finished, leading him to being quietly removed from Rooster Teeth, and even moments in the early development of the show, like bringing on Michael B. Jordan, make sure to avoid mentioning his involvement in the panel.

This panel is moderated by Karama Horne and features star and EP Michael B. Jordan, star Dakota Fanning, and new Showrunner/Lead Writer Daniel Dominguez. Jordan and Fanning discuss how they approached their respective characters, as well as hints of what is to come for them in the upcoming season. Development on the next season faced some challenge when the pandemic hit, but the crew learned to acclimate. Fan Art from numerous artists, including a human sized Holon made of Legos, are featured. Jordan discusses shows he’s caught up on during the lockdowns, including Castlevania, Demon Slayer, and My Hero Academia, as well as hinting at future animated projects from Outlier Society to come alongside gen:LOCK. Dominguez also teases further fleshing out of the Union and Polity and their motives for the conflict, something that was a common criticism for the first season. The panel concludes with a short look at the new season, with the clip mainly being Chase narrating the group’s fights since the end of the first.

Gen:LOCK Season 2 premieres this Fall on HBO Max.
