English Dub Review: Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- “Galaxy Anthem – To Make Everyone Happy With My Singing”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Diva rises as a popular songstress AI and soon will perform with other AI songstresses on stage at the Zodiac festival. However, despite the popularity, she feels that something is missing and it’s the gap in her memories after being rebooted. She meets Ophelia, her youngest sister in. the Sister series. She appears to be determined to sing well and become her true self. After rehearsal Diva spots a familiar man and runs after him, but after a guard goes rampant.

Her body moves on itself and a cube AI rescues her while addressing her by another name: Vivy. Diva confronts that cube AI later who saves her life and attempts to dodge her questions. However, Diva corners the AI who reveals his mission and that she was a part of it. This time Matsumoto addresses his mission to stop Ophelia from committing the first AI suicide.

Our Take:

This episode opens the door to the fourth turning point, and in the aftermath of the Metal Float incident, there’s Diva, an amnesiac songstress AI.

What made the episode stick out was Diva. She’s different and more human in comparison to her past self as Vivy. However, she still retains the words of her younger sisters. Estella and Elizabeth. The smiling advice she gives to the guard and the turning another AI into a calculator as a joke. Furthermore, she still had her combat program and that tiny memory jog with the young man at the venue. I do have to wonder about the young man that looks like that Toak member.

This week’s turning point and featured Sister is Ophelia (Xanthe Huynh) the youngest of the AI sisters. She is adorable but also holds a small mystery with her goal and the occasional dark looks. I do enjoy the Shakespeare reference with her name, her introduction by falling into a pool of water, and her suicide in the original timeline.

Despite the episode’s first half leaning towards the idol part of Diva’s identity. That’s just on the surface as the growth of AI evolution can be seen with the opening with the more human AIs being produced. In the episode, there’s the pause towards Arayashiki Tower hinting that the nobler mission with Matsumoto isn’t over yet to us. There are also the consequences to the Metal Float incident creating tension between AIs and humans. There’s also the irony of Diva liking the idea of behind the bridge between AIs and humans.

Another surprise was Matsumoto’s behavior and his reunion with Diva. He saves her without hesitation when he could have just carried on without her. Even though he spits out his rational reasons and attempts not to drag her into this to avoid any errors in his mission Matsumoto saves her from her intentional fall and worries about the young guy she mentions. The callback with Diva and Matsumoto talking on the other stage and not the main stage is a nice reminder of how their partnership started.

Overall it was a good episode from the songs to the plot-driven action. I can’t wait to see how they stop Ophelia’s suicide.
