English Dub Review: Shadows House “An Incomplete Map”

Overview:

Emilico and Rum meet up with Shaun. They work together and eventually find Shaun’s shadow master John. Lou and Ricky are also traveling together. Lou almost falls off a cliff but she is fine. She is more worried if there is damage done to her face. Emilico is determined to rescue Kate.

Our Take:

The moral of this episode is teamwork. Even though I think the debut is supposed to pit living dolls against each other, almost everyone is working together in some capacity. Shaun needed Emilico’s help to read the map and Emilico needed Rum’s help to push her cart. I like seeing Lou and Ricky working together as well since they are more on the superior side. Seeing that even they realize they need to work together sometimes was refreshing.

Emilico is such a heartwarming character and just does her best. She comes across Patrick, the shadow of Ricky. She was going to save him but realized that that would be stealing Ricky’s accomplishment. So instead she just left him some oranges, how sweet is that? Emilico is definitely a Dani Chambers character through and through. Emilico’s kindness and naivety come out so well with her voice.

I think we can safely assume that most of the shadows can use soot powers to some degree. A few of the adults were using powers of some sort. Speaking of the adults I distinctly heard Jason Liebrecht’s voice so I hope the character he voices becomes more prominent near the end of this arc.

As far as arcs go this “debut” has been taking longer than I thought it would. I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasted most of the remaining episodes. This is kind of disappointing to me, as long as we are doing the debut it doesn’t feel like that will leave much time for mystery solving. I could be wrong because they have shown the adults a fair bit so they might use them to shed some light for us.

Shadows House has been a treat and I feel it would hit for a lot of people. I am not sure what category to lump it into. It has some light horror elements, a bit of action, and after the last two episodes a sprinkle of romance. I definitely get excited whenever a new dub episode gets announced. I wonder if the debut will finally wrap up next time. We need more Emilico and Kate interactions so I hope they are reunited at least.
