English Dub Review: Kemono Jihen “Twins”

Overview:

Akira’s brother has made it into Tokyo. Meanwhile, Akira keeps messing up and feeling useless decides to run away. Shiki and Kabane are able to finish their tasks a bit quicker but at what cost?

Our Take:

I felt I had to reference Frozen here. I mean Akira’s brother comes back into town and makes him an ice castle. Not exactly the same but still that was all I could think at that moment. Now that song is stuck in my head just like millions of parents across the world. Anyways, let’s get into this new arc.

I have a feeling this arc will be just as dark as the previous one so I hope you enjoyed the fluffy episode when we got it. Akira and her twin brother Yui are yuki (or snow) kemono. Their village has a lot of women but usually, only one male is born every one hundred years. But this time there were two, so you can probably guess where this is going. Sure it SOUNDS awesome but well… something tells me it won’t be. Especially when we see just how their father was treated. He was eventually locked up and we don’t know why yet. It seems Yui wanted to protect Akira from how this village would treat him and sent him away to find Inugami.

Something bad had to happen to make Yui the way he is. He doesn’t seem to mind hurting people and has a calculus similar to Kabane’s but it’s implanted in his chest. His calculus seems to amplify his powers to the point where he froze Kabane, Shiki, and Inugami. This terrified Akira and I am really interested to see where the rest of this arc goes.

There are only two episodes left after this one so I think this arc will take the remaining episodes. I hope it is as good as the last one but hopefully not as tough on my heart. I can only take so much and that last one gave me all sorts of emotions. So far Kemono Jihen has been a fun series and I really hope that it sticks the landing.
