English Dub Review: Kemono Jihen “Memories”

Overview:

Akira is worried his friends are dead from being frozen. Luckily, Kabane is hard to kill and Inugami was smart in how he used his transformation ability. Kabane eventually breaks out and wants to take Akira home but Akira lies and says he hates Kabane in an attempt to protect him. Lady Inari and Nobimaru come to the ice castle because she wants the nil stone. This leads to a showdown between Nobimaru and Yui.

Our Take:

After seeing what happened with Yui I have decided being the only man in a world full of women might not be all it’s cracked up to be. Being forced to breed with every woman in the village does not sound like a good time. The women all wear face cloths so that pecking order cannot be established because of looks. Not a bad idea but I think there are some other things that the village needs to work on first.

Yui used his influence to make a deal with the women of the village. He would handle everything and satisfy all of them in return they had to let Akira leave. They realized that Akira wasn’t really leadership material and allowed him to leave. They then sent villagers after him, which is what made Yui go and claim the nil stone.

I suppose Yui is the antagonist of this arc but it’s hard not to see why he is so protective of Akira. The best written “villains” are the ones we can relate to and I can relate to Yui. All he ever did was try to protect his brother. Now he is extreme about it and that definitely needs to be reigned in but it makes sense.

The fight with Yui and Nobimaru was really awesome and fun to watch. Nobimaru used his ability to make copies of himself while Yui just threw ice at them. Nobimaru can use fire as well so it created a lot of awesome visual effects. Steam and fog took up the battlefield and since those have moisture in them Akira was able to make ice to escape.

A good episode and almost the end of the arc. One more episode is left in the arc and in the season. Luckily we got both episodes together. So I am off to review that one, let’s see if this show closes out well!
