English Dub Review: Wonder Egg Priority “Confession”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Momo has been asked out. And not just by a girl like usual — it’s an actual guy this time! She’s very excited about the date, but when she shows up, she realizes that the guy thought she was a boy. She goes to the egg world and helps rescue a younger victim from his abuser, but the ending doesn’t go as usual thanks to the arrival of a newcomer sent by Frill.
Later on, Ai, Rika, and Neiru confront Acca and Ura-Acca about their role in all this and the fact that they are members of the same organization as Neiru. Finally, Mr. Sawaki invites Ai to his art gallery exhibition and Ai has to choose once and for all if she’s ready to learn the truth about Koito.
Our Take:
Hoooo boy, there is a lot going on in this week’s dubbed episode of Wonder Egg. It’s already the tenth episode, but because of the production troubles the show went through, there’s still a ton of stuff getting crammed into a very short amount of time, and this episode might be the worst display of that. There’s just so much going on, from the reveal of the Acca brothers identities to Ai confronting Mr. Sawaki for the truth about Koito. And on top of all that, we’ve got a very standard episode where Momoe has to save an egg girl — except this egg girl is no girl.
Momoe has always been one of the more intriguing characters given her struggles fitting into a society that judges people for their looks and bases value on comparisons with a so-called societal norm. This week starts out with a pleasant surprise, as a boy asks her out for once. It quickly flip-flops though when she discovers he assumed she was a gay guy, and she’s back in the doghouse once again. The character she meets in the egg world, however, helps her to get her confidence back, as she protects a transgender boy from the monster who assaulted him. It’s a very intense few minutes in the middle of the episode, and it may certainly cross the line for viewers who would prefer the show hold its cards a bit closer to its chest.
There’s plenty else to distract from this subplot though, as Ai and Rika confront the Acca brothers about their real plan. They were both members of the same genius society that Neiru is a part of, but they left their bodies behind and only their minds exist now. It’s creepy, but we don’t get much more info this week — that’ll come in next week’s flashback episode.
We also get several scenes this week with Ai finally preparing to talk to Sawaki about Koito. He’s going to quit his school job to try and make it in the art world, and she decides she has to find out the truth before he goes. He invites her to his gallery opening — something her mother apparently wasn’t invited to — and shows her a portrait of herself, but older. It’s all still pretty red flag-y, but he also tells her he wants her to have more self confidence like her mom. She works up the gumption to ask about why Koito died and though we don’t get a direct answer yet, it’s an important step for Ai to take.
The final few minutes of the episode are some of the craziest, as a butterfly-headed figure appears after Momoe has supposedly released Haruka from her statue form. The newcomer kills Panic her pet/sidekick croc and forces her to eat it. It’s one of the grossest, most sickening things the show has done so far for sure, and really makes me curious to know more about Frill and Thanatos and Eros. There’s so many threads still in the air, and only a handful of episodes left. Next week’s episode is the last one I’ve seen when it was airing, so I’ll be crossing my fingers right along with you that Wonder Egg doesn’t go sour before coming to a satisfactory conclusion.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
