English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “Ameri’s Decision”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Iruma is asked once again to wear the idol costume he wore to support Crocell, as it turns out his idol character was incredibly popular. This gets the attention of Ameri, who pulls Iruma away for an important matter. Kiriwo, the one running the Magical Apparatus Battler, has been detained, and he was the only one really able to run the club, so Ameri shuts it down for the time being, putting Asomodeus and Clara in different clubs while Iruma is offered to join the school council with her. He accepts, giving them more time together and showing he can keep up with the other members. Student Council elections are coming, with Ameri up for re-election, though she worries she might be too scary, which Iruma denies. Later, Ameri is called to help someone out, only to be drugged with some strange substance that makes her act incredibly demure.
OUR TAKE
This week kicks off a three week arc centering around Iruma, Ameri, and the mystery of who gave her this strange new personality makeover. Ameri has not been a very major character in the story so far past her introduction, which established her developing admiration and growing love for Iruma, as well as their cute scheduled reading of what she knows as “sacred texts” but are really just some generic romance manga, which Iruma translates for her and even acts out. In turn, the two have become fast friends, pushing each other to grow and succeed. Ameri is already the Student Council President and rules the school with an iron fist, but Iruma definitely started out as a proverbial fish out of water, and so didn’t know what to or how to move forward past the ever present danger of being eaten by his classmates (though I’m sure much chance of that happening is pretty much behind him, even if he doesn’t know it yet). So on top of his powerful “grandfather” who dotes on him, having previously stopped a terror attack (the aforementioned incident with Kiriwo, who turned out to be a terrorist), and gaining a huge reputation in school, gaining the favor of the incredibly well connected student council is really only going to help matters.
As for where this arc will be headed in its following two episodes: It looks like now that we’ve established how well respected Ameri is among her council, as well as how much she has maintained power due to her sheer dominant aura, the conundrum here will be seeing who is loyal enough to stay and help her or wants to leave after that. Their steel pillar of a president has now regressed mentally, though it’s hard to say how far back, and it will be up to Iruma and the rest of the council to make sure some ill-fitted opposition might take the school in a different or worse direction. We’ll see if Iruma, being the type of shonen protagonist that brightens whatever room he’s in, can help, as well as which competition Aremi is truly up against. It’s probably not all the movies that we though we were going to come out this month, huh? Either way, this remains a fun show that I am eager to see continue, and we’ll see how the next two episodes do their job and continue the second season.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
