English Dub Review: Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town? “Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies got used to Life in a Starter Town?”

Overview(Spoilers):

So many crazy things going on. Micona comes back to wreak havoc during a tournament. She eventually gets absorbed into a golem that Eug is remote controlling. Lloyd’s friend Shoma has been working with the bad guy, Sou, all for Lloyd’s sake. Sou used to be a hero and wants Lloyd to take his place and Shoma wants the world to be interesting for Lloyd.

Our Take:

As I said previously, comedies that get too serious oftentimes don’t go well. I think this show just barely pulls it off simply because of how ridiculous the whole “evil” premise is. It definitely gets points for uniqueness. This whole time I thought Sou was the main villain and Shoma might be involved too. While that is technically true, they act more like doting parents and siblings to Lloyd than anything.

They even film him defeating all the monsters as a home video of sorts. Wanting to release demons upon the world just so your friend has something to do is… interesting to say the least. Sou’s backstory was also pretty interesting to me. I have always thought what happens after the hero saves the day? While not quite in the same vein, seeing what happened to Sou gives some possible indication at least. I kind of felt bad for him even and having a sympathetic villain is key after all.

Lloyd was still in Kunlun but Alka shot him in a canon to get him to the capital quickly. Just dumb little things like this make the show very enjoyable. The characters got a pretty good “send-off” as well because they all did something meaningful in the battle.

If ever there was a show that suffers from the typical anime industry shenanigans it’s this show. This whole thing felt like a huge advertisement for the light novel. Which I guess worked cause now I am strongly considering reading them. I really fell in love with these characters and would like to see where the rest of the story takes them. Lucky for us it is licensed in English so it is available but still when I watch anime I like a complete story and that will knock points off.

I had a lot of fun with this show and can’t wait to write up my season review. It was one of the better shows of the winter season but falls just short of greatness. As a single episode though this one was really fun and the animation and sound effects were great which has become a staple of this show up till now.
