English Dub Review: Mars Red “Suspicion”

The boys are back together

Overview:

The vampire gang gets back together, minus Yamagami and Maeda of course. It wasn’t all happy at first though. Kurusu heard that a weird man in a mask was killing vampire children. He caught Suwa in the middle of a kill and they fought. Takeuchi used a skunk bomb of sorts to break up the fight. More worrisome is the infighting was planned. Kurusu came across a recording that sounded just like Maeda telling the other members to kill him.

Our Take:

I love when misunderstandings don’t last tons of episodes. Suwa and Kurusu definitely have some issues to work out but at least they know they aren’t enemies. They figured out pretty quickly that the recording was fake and it was because of how well they know each other. They knew Maeda wouldn’t say a lot of things he said and I think that was a cool way to show their bonds.

The fight between Kurusu and Suwa didn’t last very long but it was pretty cool. Even if they were moving so fast it was just occasional flashes of light when their blades met. It felt like watching Dragonball Z with vampires and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. For a show that is more of a slow burn and doesn’t focus on action, they do the scenes really well when they happen.

I am really intrigued to see where these characters go, who I thought was the villain seems to actually be a good guy. Someone who seems to be Maeda makes an appearance at the end of the episode and looks worse for wear. I think he has become a vampire and hopefully, we find out soon.

One of the things I have really appreciated about the last couple of episodes is their focus on Kurusu. He is billed as the main character but it felt like we hardly knew anything about him or spent any time with him. Ironically we moved to him when now I want to know what is going on with Maeda. One thing I can say for sure is that this show builds anticipation well.

I can’t wait to see what the end of this episode means for the next one. I really think this show is building up to something big and I hope I’m right. With Maeda possibly back in the picture and possibly being a vampire, I think it might be rebellion time. Can you imagine? Vampires rebelling against the government would be awesome.
