English Dub Review: Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki “When a mentor character becomes a boss, they’ll push you to the edge”

Overview

Fumiya and Hinami are walking in the hallway where Fumiya admits that he is treating the election like it is one of their online battles. During her campaign speech, Hinami reveals that she plans to install air conditioners in every classroom, which catches Fumiya and Mimimi off guard. When it is Mimimi’s turn, Fumiya decides to help her by having her ad-lib her speech resulting in an unexpected outcome…

Our Take

At first, I wasn’t as invested or thrilled with the way things happened in the first place. Because, well, that’s the usual teen school drama story for you.
At the very least I did like the student election speech part. The fact that our lead Fumiya Tomozaki is actually preparing Navi to make Mimimi adlib, is pretty creative and Hinami is impressed.

This episode also brings out a lot of Aoi’s personality as you sense a lot of intensity and determination in her speech. Quite frankly, I think this election tends to bring a lot of personalities out of the cast. On the subject of Aoi’s character and this seems like an interesting observation but Aoi comes across as flawlessly capable and at times both a manipulative and calculating individual when challenged and can be quite unpleasant when you know her intentions, but I can’t really hate her. I’d like to see what happens if sometimes things don’t go the way and how she responds to that.

As a whole, this was a passable episode. At its core, this was all about winning people’s hearts like a game and “controlling the mood” and Fumiya’s methods that were used to help even if everything didn’t completely go the way we the audience would imagine. I just hope all of this leads up to something in future episodes.
