Review: The Great North “My Fart Will Go On Adventure”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The moment has arrived and it’s finally Wolf and Honeybee’s big day. Everyone is excited for the wedding and preparations are well underway when Wolf receives a distressing piece of news — his mother has RSVP’d to the wedding!
In an effort to keep her taint from messing up the wedding, Judy plans a shadow wedding to throw her off the track, but in the end they realize that a marriage shouldn’t be started with lies and deception. Their mother may not be a saint, but no family is perfect. And she didn’t even show up anyway.
Our Take:
My Fart Will Go On Adventure is sort of a special episode in that it’s the first time that The Great North has presented a major event like this that previous episodes have been leading up to. Honeybee has been a primary cast member from the beginning of the show, but she hasn’t been in the Tobin’s lives all that long. This episode shows that even though Wolf and Honeybee still have their issues, they’ll be able to overcome anything with clear communication and some healthy understanding.
While the wedding between Wolf and Honeybee is ostensibly the big event happening this week, most of the episode runtime is concerned with the Tobin family’s ex-mom and all the doubts and drama that enters their minds upon news of her imminent return. We haven’t really spent much time thinking about the former Mrs. Tobin of late, but My Fart Will Go On Adventure really reminds us how terrible she is, from never showing up on time to taking the opportunity to flash guests by tucking her skirt into her underpants, she sounds like a real piece of work.
I was somewhat excited to see what her arrival would mean for the group dynamic and how the kids would react to seeing their mother for the first time in a while. For better or worse, though, the episode switches gears at the last minute, calling the shadow wedding off and letting the lady be a no-show at her oldest son’s wedding. The overall message about accepting how a family member can be awful, but not letting their behavior bring you down is a good one, but I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed at her absence, too.
Overall, My Fart Will Go On Adventure is an important episode that feels a little less entertaining than it should be, for a few different reasons. It wasn’t quite as funny as the show usually is, which hey, it’s a wedding episode, so that’s not exactly a surprise. It did make good use of supporting cast members, though, and it feels like the series is starting to build out a wider net of secondary characters who can help add some more spice to the mixture. And while Wolf and Honeybee may be a little cringe-y at times (the Star Wars quotes at the end pushed it over the edge of being a bit too much for me), there’s no denying that this is one of the sweetest episodes of The Great North so far. The Tobin family may not ever see that woman again, but now they’ve officially welcomed a new member to the group.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
