Review: No Activity “Not Another Waco!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Detective Cooper (Lamorne Morris) fills in the blanks of last night’s events to a woozy Cullen, and Dirk finally meets Terry. Meanwhile, Janice (Amy Sedaris) and Fatima (Sunita Mani) return to dispatch.

Our Take:
So last week’s episode ended on a pretty crazy note. Cullen went on a naked drunk spree thanks to Terry’s tea, and Risoli surprisingly got shot by Dirk. Thankfully, she’s not dead. She’s only in a coma, so there may or may not be a chance that she’ll return before the season ends. If not, then I won’t be annoyed by it. I was not a fan of her anyway.
This week is a pre-raid episode that features Cullen meeting up with his former police partner Cooper. As Cullen tried to tell Cooper about what happened, Cooper attempted to blackmail Cullen to cover his drug raid, or he’ll send a recorded video of Cullen being naked and drugged. The conversations between the two were pretty amusing, including the blackmail scenario. Lamorne Morris’ vocal performance as Cooper made the segment a bit more entertaining than it should. However, it made me miss Cullen’s conversations with Tolbeck even more.
The episode also saw the return of Janice and Fatima, who were last seen working at a prison at the end of season three. They’re back to working for dispatch, and I got to say, it’s good to have them back. It felt like this season was running out of steam in terms of the humor, so the writers decided to bring the two back to spice things up a bit. This approach played out well thanks to the chemistry between the two actresses. Although, I’m not a massive fan of the animated design for Fatima. I think they made her eyes a little too big compared to the other characters. As a result, she looks more like an anime character than an actual person in animation form. The animators were doing so well in copying the likeness of the live-action actors this season, and they immediately messed up by making Fatima’s face look like a human grasshopper. The animation frame rate is one thing, but Fatima’s design? Oh boy, that’s a sign that the creators should’ve stuck with live-action instead.
With Dirk finally escaping from Terry’s grasp and agreeing to help the FBI, things can get only more intense from here. The “Not Another Waco” episode marks a good beginning of the raid. Not only that, but it also brought back some familiar faces with stellar results, including the brief return of hot-headed Dustin Kasprowicz (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas). Well, except for Tolbeck, who’s still absent from the action. Maybe he’ll make another appearance before the raid starts? I guess we’ll find out next week.
