Review: Let’s Be Real “Episode 102”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The show’s second episode introduces all-new puppets into the world of entertainment and politics.
Our Take:
Do you think that these puppets couldn’t get any less funny than last week’s series premiere? If so, then you thought wrong. This week’s episode showcased plenty of new sketches with a few new puppets created to mess around with the humans. However, even with the new additions, it still wasn’t enough to get this new sketch comedy back on track.
One of the new sketches featured was the divorce trial between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Here, Kanye served as the judge, the representative, and the witness. Hey, it’s better than him running for president. Then there’s Nancy Pelosi talking about Revolve in the form of a pill commercial. If you can’t already tell what it is, it is a handgun with real bullets and pills. She’s telling people to get a gun to protect themselves. Unfortunately, both of these sketches failed in providing clever satirical comedy and came off as dull.
This was followed by the AM Fairbanks segment, which involves the hosts talking to Dr. Meredith Crowling about the COVID vaccines. The hosts couldn’t wait for things to get back to normal and start doing inappropriate things to women again. How did this talk show get approved again? This sketch didn’t know how to balance humor with crudeness, similar to how the hosts have no idea what’s right and wrong about treating women.
The Jeopardy sketch was possibly the worst one, especially for those who grew up with the popular game show. This segment saw various guest hosts, such as Ted Cruz and Melania Trump, testing the contestants’ patience and mine. These hosts have no idea how this show works. Instead of delivering laughs, the parody wound up providing irritation to my senses. I can hear Alex Trebek rolling around his grave right now.
The last remaining sketches revolve around Mitch McConnell and Barack Obama. The “73 Q’s with Mitch McConnell” skit has the host asking Mitch several short questions while encountering his secrets inside his home. These secrets include growing federal judges in an indoor garden and having a secret tortoise wife. The last sketch entitled “Renegades” saw Obama interviewing Bruce Springsteen, and that’s it. These two skits provided nothing but boredom from start to finish, which best described this episode as a whole.
Like last week’s episode, the second episode of “Let’s Be Real” had some decent ideas, but it failed to capitalize on them when it comes to comedy. All of the sketches shown in this episode ranged from painfully tedious to awkwardly insulting. We’re already two episodes in, and this show is nowhere close to improving itself. It already makes me wonder why FOX approved it in the first place.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
