English Dub Review: Combatants Will Be Dispatched! “Spies Will Be Dispatched!”
Overview:
What do you get when the writer of Konosuba gives us a different take on Isekai? Something hilarious that’s what! The evil Kisaragi Corporation has almost completely conquered the Earth so they set their sights on other Earth-like planets. Enter Agent Six and Alice, a complete perverted idiot and his loli android companion. They are tasked with setting up a base on one such world. Let’s see how this goes!
Our Take:
One thing I would like to say real quick if you watch and enjoy this show consider watching Konosuba. It has two seasons and a movie so far and is one of the funniest animes I have ever watched. This show is shaping up to be just as funny if not funnier. Following the “bad guys” makes for some fun and unique situations.
This almost feels like a “reverse” Isekai but I guess that really isn’t the case. They are still going to a different world but in this instance, it is by design and part of their mission instead of accidentally happening or because they were reincarnated. Agent Six is partnered with Alice the “Kisaragi Company Pretty Girl Android”, and gets sent to a different world.
One feature that I can imagine will be used to produce hilarious results is the “evil points” system. When Agent Six changes the password of a country’s rain-making device to “Dick Festival” he earns evil points. Six and Alice can use these points as a currency to upgrade and receive equipment, like when Alice gets a shotgun. I can’t wait to see how this feature gets implemented further.
As far as voice actors go we get mostly old reliable talent. Agent Six however is voiced by Brendan Blaber, in his first-ever lead role. I watched a bit of the sub to get ready for this and to do some comparison’s and Brendan does an amazing job with the craziness and overreactions that Six is known for. I am really looking forward to seeing where he takes this character and what other roles he might get.
His partner Alice is played by long-standing dub actress Monica Rial. She can be really hit or miss for me personally, there are just some roles of hers I am not a fan of. In this, though she is channeling her role as Tanya Degurechaff from The Saga of Tanya the Evil. I loved that show and Monica was amazing in it so I am looking forward to seeing how she brings Alice to life.
Combatants Will Be Dispatched! is another light novel series adaptation. These almost seem to be more popular than manga adaptations lately but for the most part, they have all been pretty good. As I said earlier this is from the mind of Konosuba and that show and the light novel is excellent. Keep your eyes on this one, I think it’s going to be good.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
